The Rock of Monaco (Rocher de Monaco) is the historic and symbolic heart of the principality, a sheer limestone cliff that juts into the sea, separating the Port Hercules from the Fontvieille district. This iconic landmark has been inhabited since ancient times and today hosts the Prince's Palace, the official residence of the Grimaldi family, as well as the Old Town (Monaco-Ville) with its narrow medieval streets, the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate, and the Oceanographic Museum. Visitors can walk along the top of the rock, enjoying 360-degree views of the Mediterranean, the port, and the surrounding mountains of France and Italy. The changing of the guard ceremony at the palace is a daily highlight. The Rock is a must-visit for its blend of history, culture, and stunning scenery, offering a glimpse into Monaco's regal past and present.
