The Heian Maru, a 1930-built Japanese submarine tender, rests in Chuuk Lagoon as one of the most impressive wreck dives in the world. Sunk during Operation Hailstone in 1944, the ship lies upright in clear waters, its hull encrusted with corals and sponges. Divers can explore its cavernous holds, which still contain artifacts like torpedoes and periscopes, while schools of fish and sea turtles swim through the wreck. The Heian Maru offers a unique blend of history and marine biology, making it a must-dive for advanced wreck enthusiasts.

Don't miss

  • Swim through the massive engine room and see intact machinery.
  • Spot torpedoes and other munitions still stored in the cargo holds.
  • Observe vibrant coral growth and diverse marine life, including barracuda and jacks.
