Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Zapopan

A bit of history

The basilica was built between 1689 and 1730 to house the statue of the Virgin of Zapopan, which was brought by Franciscan missionaries. The statue was crowned in 1921 and the church was elevated to a basilica in 1939 by Pope Pius XII.
