The Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve encompasses over 2,500 acres of salt marsh, mudflats, and coastal dunes at the mouth of the Tijuana River. It is one of the last remaining coastal wetlands in Southern California and a critical stopover for migratory birds. Visitors can explore several miles of trails that wind through the estuary, with observation decks and interpretive signs. The reserve provides a peaceful escape into nature, with chances to see herons, egrets, and other waterfowl. Its location near the border adds a unique cultural and ecological context.
