El Tepozteco is an ancient Aztec pyramid dedicated to the god of pulque, perched dramatically on a cliff above Tepoztlán. The hike to the site is a popular activity, winding through lush vegetation and offering breathtaking views of the valley below. The pyramid itself, though modest in size, is remarkably well-preserved and provides a tangible connection to pre-Hispanic rituals. Visitors are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and sweeping vistas that make the steep climb worthwhile.

Don't miss

  • Hike the steep but rewarding trail to the pyramid (about 1 hour one way)
  • Stand atop the pyramid platform for 360-degree valley views
  • Observe the stone carvings and altar at the pyramid's base
