Mazunte is a small coastal village on Oaxaca's Pacific coast that has transformed from a turtle-fishing hub into a tranquil tourist destination. Its main draw is the Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga, a turtle conservation and research center that educates visitors about sea turtles and local marine life. The village itself has a mellow, bohemian vibe, with sandy streets, boutique hotels, and open-air restaurants serving fresh seafood and Oaxacan cuisine. Mazunte's beaches, Playa Mazunte, Playa Rinconcito, and Playa Mermejita, are less crowded than nearby Zipolite, offering calm waters for swimming and stunning sunsets. The town is also a gateway to Punta Cometa and other natural attractions.

Don't miss

  • Visit the Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga to see sea turtles and learn about conservation efforts.
  • Swim or relax at Playa Rinconcito, a calm cove with gentle waves ideal for families.
  • Watch the sunset from Playa Mermejita, a quieter beach with dramatic rock formations.
