Pieter Both, named after a Dutch governor, is the second-highest mountain in Mauritius at 820 meters. Its most famous feature is a large, naturally balanced rock perched atop the summit, resembling a human head. The hike is strenuous, taking 3-4 hours round trip, with steep sections and some scrambling required. The trail passes through dense forest and offers spectacular views of the northern plains and the ocean. Reaching the summit is a rewarding achievement for experienced hikers, with the unique rock formation providing a perfect photo opportunity.
