Île de la Passe is a tiny island guarding the entrance to Grand Port, featuring a well-preserved fort and lighthouse built by the French in the 18th century. The fort played a crucial role in the Battle of Grand Port, and visitors can explore its ramparts, gun emplacements, and underground chambers. The lighthouse, still operational, offers panoramic views of the surrounding sea. Accessible only by boat, the island provides a serene escape and a tangible connection to Mauritius' maritime history. Guided tours are often available from Mahébourg.
