The Rotunda of Xewkija is a remarkable circular church dedicated to St. John the Baptist, famous for its colossal dome that rivals that of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Completed in 1971, the church was built by the local community using local limestone. Its vast interior, with a diameter of 28 meters, can accommodate over 3,000 people. Visitors are awed by the sheer scale of the dome, which is supported by eight massive pillars. The church also houses a small museum with religious artifacts and offers a lift to the top of the dome for panoramic views of Gozo and Comino.

Don't miss

  • Marvel at the enormous dome, one of the largest unsupported domes in the world.
  • Take the lift to the top of the dome for sweeping views of Gozo's countryside and coastline.
  • Explore the museum inside the church, featuring historic vestments and silverware.
