The Rotunda of Mosta, officially the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, dominates the skyline of Mosta with its colossal neoclassical dome, which spans 37 meters and is among the largest unsupported domes globally. Visitors marvel at the interior's harmonious proportions and the dramatic story of a bomb that fell through the dome during a 1942 air raid but failed to explode, sparing the congregation. The church's design was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, and its serene atmosphere invites contemplation.
Don't miss
- Stand beneath the massive unsupported dome and admire its engineering.
- See the replica of the unexploded WWII bomb displayed near the sacristy.
- Observe the intricate marble work and altarpiece depicting the Assumption.
