The Tomb of Askia stands as a monumental testament to the power of the Songhai Empire. Located in Gao, this UNESCO World Heritage site is the burial complex of Emperor Askia Mohamed, who expanded the empire to its greatest extent. Visitors can see the distinctive pyramidal mud-brick structure, which rises 17 meters high, along with the surrounding mosque and cemetery.
