Malé Friday Mosque, also known as Hukuru Miskiy, is a masterpiece of Maldivian craftsmanship. Built in 1656, it is one of the oldest mosques in the country and is renowned for its intricate coral stone carvings that adorn the walls and interior. The mosque's architecture reflects a blend of Islamic and local traditions, with a distinctive tiered roof and a minaret added later. Visitors are struck by the detailed calligraphy and geometric patterns carved into the coral stone, a material unique to the Maldives. The mosque remains an active place of worship, so visitors should dress modestly and respect prayer times.
