The Square Tower is a distinctive landmark on the Kuching Waterfront, built in 1879 as a fortification and watchtower for the Brooke administration. Its unique octagonal shape and thick masonry walls reflect its defensive purpose. Today, it houses a small exhibition on the history of the waterfront and offers panoramic views of the Sarawak River. Visitors can climb to the upper floor for a photo-worthy vantage point. The tower's proximity to other historic sites makes it a key stop on heritage walks.

Don't miss

  • Climb to the top for sweeping views of the Sarawak River and Astana
  • View the historical photographs and maps inside the tower's exhibition
  • Notice the original cannons displayed outside, remnants of its defensive past
