The Japanese destroyer Shinonome (1927) rests on the seabed off Miri, a relic of World War II that sank in December 1941 after hitting a Dutch mine. Today, the wreck is a premier dive site, encrusted with corals and teeming with marine life such as barracudas, groupers, and sea turtles. Divers can explore the intact hull, deck guns, and engine room, while the surrounding waters offer clear visibility and moderate currents. The site is accessible by boat from Miri, with depths ranging from 20 to 30 meters.

Don't miss

  • Swim through the intact bridge and engine room of the destroyer.
  • Spot schools of batfish and jacks circling the wreck.
  • Photograph the coral-covered deck guns and propeller.
