The Ninth Fort memorial stands on the site of one of the most tragic chapters in Kaunas' history. Originally part of the 19th-century fortress, the fort was used as a prison and execution site by both Nazi and Soviet regimes. Today, a stark museum presents artifacts, photographs, and personal accounts documenting the mass killings of Jews and political prisoners. Outside, a monumental sculpture and mass grave markers create a somber, reflective space. The site serves as a powerful reminder of the horrors of totalitarianism.
