Wartau Castle is a striking medieval ruin perched on a rocky outcrop in the Swiss municipality of Wartau, just across the Rhine from Vaduz, Liechtenstein. While not located within Liechtenstein itself, its prominent silhouette is a familiar sight from many points in Vaduz, especially from the eastern side of the valley. The castle dates back to the 13th century and was once a strategic stronghold controlling the surrounding region. Today, visitors can hike up to the ruins and explore the remaining walls and towers, enjoying panoramic views of the Rhine Valley, the Alps, and the Vaduz skyline. The site is free to access and offers a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path experience for history enthusiasts and hikers alike. The climb is moderate and rewards with a tangible sense of medieval life amid the ruins.
