Vaduz Castle is the emblematic landmark of Liechtenstein, visible from almost anywhere in the capital. Perched on a steep hillside above Vaduz, this medieval fortress has been the residence of the princely family since the 18th century. The castle's origins date back to the 12th century, with significant expansions in the 16th and 17th centuries. Today, it is the private home of Prince Hans-Adam II and his family, so the interior is not open to the public. However, visitors can walk up to the castle grounds and enjoy panoramic views of the Rhine Valley and the Swiss Alps. The exterior, with its towers, battlements, and well-preserved walls, is a photographer's dream. The surrounding vineyards and forest trails make the ascent a pleasant hike. The castle is especially beautiful at sunset when the golden light illuminates the stone.
