Lamco Airport was originally built by the Liberian American-Swedish Minerals Company (LAMCO) to support iron ore mining operations in the Nimba region. Located about 10 kilometers from Buchanan, the airstrip features a long runway designed for cargo aircraft. Today, it stands largely disused and overgrown, offering a poignant glimpse into Liberia's industrial past. Visitors can explore the abandoned facilities and runway, imagining the bustling activity that once supported one of the country's key exports.

Don't miss

  • Walk along the long, overgrown runway once used by cargo planes.
  • See remnants of LAMCO's mining infrastructure and abandoned buildings.
  • Photograph the atmospheric, decaying site that tells a story of Liberia's economic history.
