The Churches of Harissa, officially known as the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lebanon, is a major religious and tourist site perched on a 650-meter hill overlooking Jounieh, Lebanon. The centerpiece is the towering bronze statue of the Virgin Mary, which stands 15 meters tall and is illuminated at night. Visitors can ascend inside the statue for a view through the crown. The site includes two adjacent cathedrals: the Maronite Patriarchal Cathedral and the Melkite Greek Catholic Cathedral, both featuring modern architecture and serene interiors with stained glass. The complex also houses a small museum and a gift shop. The panoramic terrace offers breathtaking views of Jounieh Bay, the Mediterranean Sea, and the surrounding mountains. Pilgrims and tourists alike come for spiritual reflection, photography, and the peaceful atmosphere. The site is accessible by a scenic gondola lift from Jounieh, known as the Teleférique, which provides stunning aerial views during the 10-minute ride.

A bit of history
The sanctuary was founded in 1904 by Patriarch Elias Hoyek to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Immaculate Conception. The statue was erected in 1908 and the cathedral complex expanded over the decades.
