Majdal Anjar, located just a few kilometers from the famous Umayyad ruins of Anjar, offers a quieter archaeological experience. The town is home to scattered Roman and Byzantine ruins, including remnants of a temple, a necropolis, and ancient stone quarries. Unlike the well-restored UNESCO site, these ruins are largely unexcavated and overgrown, giving visitors a sense of discovery. The site is free to explore, though signage is minimal, so a guide or local knowledge enhances the visit.
Don't miss
- Explore the remains of a Roman temple with carved stone blocks.
- See the ancient necropolis with rock-cut tombs.
- Walk among the old stone quarries that supplied building materials.
