The Gauja Valley, carved by the Gauja River, is the centerpiece of Latvia's oldest national park. Visitors can explore miles of well-marked hiking trails through forests and sandstone cliffs, with panoramic viewpoints overlooking the river. The valley is especially beautiful in autumn when the foliage turns vibrant colors. Distinctive features include the Gutmanis Cave, the widest and deepest in the Baltic region, and the ruins of medieval castles perched on the valley slopes. It's a peaceful escape into nature, perfect for a day of walking and photography.
