Rēzekne Castle, a 13th-century fortress built by the Livonian Order, now stands as a picturesque ruin atop a hill overlooking the city. The most striking feature is the contemporary steel-and-glass viewing platform that rises from the old stone walls, providing a 360-degree panorama of Rēzekne's red-roofed buildings and the green Latgale countryside. Visitors can walk along the restored ramparts, read interpretive panels about the castle's history, and imagine life in medieval times. The site is especially atmospheric at sunset.
Don't miss
- Climb the modern viewing platform for panoramic city and countryside views.
- Walk the restored sections of the castle walls and towers.
- Read the historical markers detailing the castle's role in regional conflicts.
