Mount Phou Si rises abruptly in the heart of Luang Prabang, crowned by a golden stupa (That Chomsi) and a small Buddha shrine. Climbing the 328 steps rewards visitors with panoramic vistas of the city's red-tiled roofs, the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, and the surrounding mountains. The climb is steep but manageable, passing through a shaded path with several viewpoints. It's a popular spot for sunset, when the sky paints the landscape in warm hues.

Don't miss

  • Reach the summit for sweeping views of Luang Prabang and the two rivers.
  • Visit the golden That Chomsi stupa at the top.
  • Watch the sunset from the summit for a memorable photo opportunity.
