Takwa is an abandoned Swahili settlement dating to the 16th century, located on Manda Island in the Lamu Archipelago. Visitors explore the remains of coral stone houses, a Friday Mosque with a unique mihrab, and several pillar tombs carved with Arabic inscriptions. The site offers a quiet, atmospheric glimpse into pre-colonial coastal trade and Islamic culture. Access is by boat from Lamu or Shela, followed by a short walk through scrubland.
