Central Nyanza District was one of the original administrative districts of colonial Kenya, established in the early 20th century. It encompassed the area around Lake Victoria's Winam Gulf, including what is now Kisumu City. Visitors today can explore the historical landmarks that remain from this era, such as the Kisumu Museum and the old provincial headquarters. The district's former boundaries offer a lens into how colonial governance reshaped local communities and economies. While the district no longer exists administratively, its influence persists in the region's infrastructure and cultural identity.
