Semipalatinsk Oblast, Russia was a historical administrative division of the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union, with its seat in Semipalatinsk (now Semey). This region encompassed vast steppes and parts of the Irtysh River basin. Today, the oblast no longer exists, as Semey and its surrounding areas became part of independent Kazakhstan.
