Mount Hor, known locally as Jabal Harun, is the traditional site where Aaron, brother of Moses, died and was buried according to the Bible. Rising 1,350 meters above sea level, it offers challenging but rewarding hiking trails through rugged, colorful rock formations. At the summit, the Tomb of Aaron shrine provides a focal point, but the mountain itself is a draw for its natural beauty and solitude. Hikers traverse narrow wadis and steep slopes, encountering Bedouin shepherds and ancient cairns along the way. The panoramic views from the top are among the finest in Jordan.
Don't miss
- Hike the main trail from the Petra area, passing through dramatic sandstone gorges and high plateaus.
- Reach the summit for 360-degree views of the Wadi Araba desert and the Negev Mountains.
- Spot wildlife such as ibex and foxes along the less-traveled paths.
