Gadara, the ancient name for Umm Qais, was one of the ten cities of the Decapolis. Its archaeological remains include a well-preserved Roman theater carved into the hillside, a large basilica, and a long colonnaded street (cardo) that once formed the city's main artery. The site also features a small museum and the ruins of a Byzantine church. Walking through Gadara, visitors can trace the layers of Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine history, all while enjoying the same panoramic views that made the city a strategic and cultural hub.

Don't miss

  • Sit in the Roman theater and imagine performances against the backdrop of the Sea of Galilee.
  • Stroll the cardo maximus, lined with granite columns and original paving stones.
  • See the remains of the Byzantine church with its mosaic floor fragments.
