Ed-Deir, the Monastery, is Petra's largest monument, measuring about 50 meters wide and 45 meters tall. Carved into the mountainside, it features a massive facade with a central urn and a simple, powerful design. Reaching it requires a strenuous hike up 800 steps, but the effort rewards visitors with panoramic views of the surrounding desert. Originally a Nabataean royal tomb, it later served as a Christian church. The site offers a quieter, more awe-inspiring experience than the Treasury.
