The archaeological site of Aydoun, just south of Irbid, is a multi-period tell that has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. Excavations have uncovered a Roman-Byzantine village with mosaic floors, a small theater, and a network of caves used for burials and storage. Visitors can climb the tell for panoramic views of the fertile plains and see remnants of walls and columns scattered among olive groves. The site is less crowded than Jerash, offering a more intimate encounter with Jordan's deep history.
