Kiyomizu-dera, meaning 'Pure Water Temple,' is a historic Buddhist temple founded in 778, famous for its massive wooden veranda that extends from the main hall over the hillside. The terrace, supported by tall wooden pillars without nails, offers stunning panoramic views of Kyoto, especially during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. Visitors also drink from the Otowa Waterfall, whose three streams are believed to grant health, longevity, and success. The temple grounds include the Jishu Shrine, dedicated to love and matchmaking, and a scenic path through the surrounding forest.
