Hakata Dontaku

Hakata Dontaku is one of Fukuoka's most celebrated festivals, held annually from May 3rd to 4th. This vibrant event dates back over 800 years and is a highlight of the city's cultural calendar. The festival features a grand parade through the streets of downtown Fukuoka, with participants dressed in elaborate costumes, including traditional samurai armor, floral headdresses, and colorful happi coats. Performers dance to the rhythmic beat of drums and shamisen, while floats decorated with flowers and lanterns roll by. The atmosphere is electric, with crowds lining the streets, cheering and clapping. In addition to the main parade, there are street performances, food stalls offering local delicacies like yakitori and takoyaki, and interactive events where visitors can join in the dancing.
