This cozy 8-seater Michelin star restaurant is an absolute must try in Tokyo if you love all things tempura 🤍 They offer a chef tasting course which is priced at ¥18,000 per person and I personally found it well worth the money. The quality and experience is like no other - it was hands down the best tempura I've ever eaten. The batter was light & crispy yet didn't feel oily at all! I enjoyed every single course without a doubt but some of the highlights were the prawn head and the mushroom stuffed with minced shrimp. Oh and also the prawn sashimi entree was amazing. It was soooo buttery and literally just melts in your mouth - so good! Reservations open up two months in advance on the 1st of every month. You need to be quick so I'd suggest booking within the hour to avoid missing out. Highly recommend checking this out if you’re able to score a booking!
The tempura quality is at its best with seasonal ingredients and vegetables/ seafood is not farmed. The chef is lovely, often jokes with the guests, the service staff are very attentive, affordable pricing and best of all if you want a true Japanese hospitality with attention to detail - this is the place.
We sat at the counter and had all of our 19 courses. The chef used google translate to tell us the name of each course and how to best eat it. It was an entertaining experience and the tempura was so tasty and fresh - really the best one will ever have in a lifetime. The service was great too - we polished off a lot of saki with the food. I would come back here in a heartbeat. The batter on the tempura was so finely done just loved the food and the whole experience.
I cannot say enough good things about our tempura experience at Yokota. We sat at the counter and chef walked us through the best way to take every bite. The curry powder used with some of our dishes was revelatory! Such a delightful meal. We were the only tourists but they spoke a little English. If you know some basic Japanese food words, the chef notices and responds enthusiastically. Take cash and an empty stomach. We were amazed that we didn't smell like cooking oil after an hour and half of sitting at the counter! Not exactly cheap but not as expensive as many of the other highly rated tempura restaurants.
