Hida Kokubun-ji is one of the oldest temples in the region, founded in the Nara period. Its main hall, a designated Important Cultural Property, houses a statue of Yakushi Nyorai (the Buddha of healing). The three-story pagoda, rebuilt in the 17th century, stands elegantly in the temple grounds. A massive ginkgo tree, believed to be over 1,200 years old, towers nearby, turning brilliant gold in autumn. The serene atmosphere and historic architecture make it a peaceful stop.
