Fuchū-shuku was the nineteenth post station along the Tōkaidō, the major highway connecting Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto during the Edo period. Today, visitors can explore a handful of well-preserved buildings that evoke the atmosphere of a bygone era, including a former inn and merchant houses. The on-site museum displays artifacts and exhibits detailing the history of the station and life along the Tōkaidō. Walking the quiet streets, one can imagine the bustle of travelers and horses that once passed through.
