✨ HighlightNonkiya is a small, easily-missed oden shop tucked away in Osaka’s bustling Dotonbori shopping street. Most of the customers here are locals, which is a good sign that the food is authentic and well-loved. Their oden is particularly flavorful, with the beef tendon being soft and tender, and the tofu smooth and delicate. The owner is very friendly and patient, even if you’re a tourist struggling to decide what to order. There’s no seating available, so everyone stands around, eating and chatting, which gives it a lively, traditional izakaya atmosphere. The prices are reasonable and not too expensive. All in all, compared to other tourist-centric spots, this place feels much more local. It’s highly recommended for anyone interested in trying authentic oden!

✨ HighlightTruly outstanding meal. The flavors were excellent and I loved that they shifted slightly with each bite as you pick up some fresh herbs, or a bit of citrus, or a rich sauce. The dishes were presented beautifully, and there is well-curated drink menu including sake and house-made kombucha. It’s clear the chef really cares about sharing the best possible flavors with guests. There is just one chef rather than a whole team to prepare the food, so give yourself a couple hours to enjoy the omakase menu as it takes time to prepare these complex dishes for multiple tables. It’s definitely worth the wait.
