The Hakone Tozan Cable Car is a funicular railway that ascends a steep hillside between Sounzan Station and the shores of Lake Ashi. The ride takes about 10 minutes, passing through lush woodland with open sections that reveal sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. The cable car is a key link in the popular Hakone sightseeing loop, connecting the mountain railway to the lake cruise. Visitors enjoy the sense of climbing through the landscape, with the carriage tilting noticeably on the steepest sections.
Don't miss
- Ride the steepest section and feel the carriage tilt as it climbs
- Spot Mount Fuji from the upper reaches on clear days
- View the changing forest colors in spring and autumn
