The Twenty-Six Martyrs Museum and Monument commemorates the 26 Christians, both foreign missionaries and Japanese converts, executed by crucifixion on February 5, 1597, on a hill now known as Martyrs' Hill. The museum displays artifacts, paintings, and documents that tell the story of Christianity in Japan, from its introduction by St. Francis Xavier to the persecution era. The adjacent monument, a bronze relief by sculptor Ango, depicts the martyrs in their final moments. The site offers a somber yet inspiring reflection on faith and resilience, with a small chapel for prayer.
