The Miyajima Natural Botanical Garden is a peaceful hillside sanctuary that showcases the rich plant diversity of the region. Spread across several terraced levels, the garden features more than 1,500 species of plants native to Japan, with a particular emphasis on the many varieties of maple trees that create a spectacular display of red and gold in autumn. Visitors can stroll along winding paths past ponds, streams, and rock gardens, and enjoy views of the surrounding forest. The garden also includes a greenhouse with tropical and subtropical species, and a small museum highlighting local flora. It's a tranquil escape from the crowds near the shrine.

Don't miss

  • Stroll through the maple grove with dozens of varieties, especially vibrant in November
  • Explore the greenhouse featuring tropical plants and a small waterfall
