Kōyasan Station marks the final ascent of the cable car ride from Gokurakubashi Station, rising 800 meters through dense forest to the summit of Mount Kōya. As the gateway to this UNESCO World Heritage site, the station greets pilgrims and tourists with a modern, functional design that contrasts with the ancient temples nearby. Upon arrival, visitors step into the serene atmosphere of Kōyasan, with shuttle buses and taxis waiting to take them to Okunoin, Kongobu-ji, and other spiritual landmarks. The station itself is small but efficient, with a ticket office, waiting area, and a small shop selling souvenirs and local snacks.
Don't miss
- Ride the scenic cable car through forested slopes, offering glimpses of the valley below
- Step out onto the observation deck for sweeping views of the surrounding mountains
- Browse the station shop for local specialties like Kōyasan sesame tofu and incense
