Kenroku-en, located in Kanazawa, is celebrated as one of Japan's three finest landscape gardens. Originally the outer garden of Kanazawa Castle, it was developed by the Maeda clan over generations. The garden's name means 'garden with six attributes,' referring to spaciousness, seclusion, artifice, antiquity, watercourses, and panoramic views. Visitors can stroll around the central Hisago-ike pond, admire the iconic Kotojitoro lantern, and explore teahouses like Shigure-tei. Each season brings a different beauty: cherry blossoms in spring, irises in summer, vibrant foliage in autumn, and snow-covered yukitsuri ropes in winter.

Don't miss

  • The Kotojitoro stone lantern, a symbol of Kenroku-en, standing on two legs near the pond.
  • The Meiji Kinenkan teahouse, offering matcha and sweets with garden views.
  • The Kasumiga-ike pond and its surrounding seasonal flowers and trees.
