Mount Omoto rises 526 meters above sea level, making it the tallest mountain on Ishigaki Island. A well-maintained hiking trail leads through subtropical forest to the summit, where hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of the island, surrounding coral reefs, and on clear days, even the distant mountains of Taiwan. The trail is moderately challenging and takes about two hours round trip. Along the way, visitors can spot native flora and fauna, including the rare Yaeyama palm.

Don't miss

  • Hike to the summit for 360-degree views of Ishigaki Island and the ocean
  • Spot endemic plants like the Yaeyama palm along the forest trail
  • Enjoy birdwatching for species such as the Ryukyu robin
