The Former Bank of Japan Hiroshima is a striking neoclassical building located in the heart of Hiroshima, near the Peace Memorial Park. Built in 1936, it served as the Hiroshima branch of the Bank of Japan until 1992. The building survived the atomic bombing in 1945 due to its robust construction, and it now stands as a symbol of resilience. Today, it operates as a museum where visitors can explore the original banking hall, vaults, and exhibits on the history of Japanese currency and the bank's role in the region. The interior retains much of its original grandeur, with marble floors, high ceilings, and period furnishings. The museum also features displays about the bombing and the building's survival. It's a quiet, educational stop that offers a glimpse into pre-war Hiroshima's economic life.
