Takizawa Honjin is a well-preserved former honjin (official inn) that hosted daimyo (feudal lords) traveling the Aizu-Nishi Kaido road during the Edo period. Visitors can explore tatami-matted rooms, a traditional garden, and a tea room, all maintained in their original style. The site offers a glimpse into the logistics of sankin kotai (alternate attendance) system, with exhibits of travel gear and historical documents. Its quiet atmosphere contrasts with the bustling modern city nearby.
Don't miss
- Walk through the daimyo's private quarters and see the tokonoma alcove and sliding doors.
- Stroll the serene Japanese garden with a pond and stone lanterns.
- Examine historical artifacts like palanquins and luggage used by traveling lords.
