Scuola Grande di San Rocco

The Scuola Grande di San Rocco is a guild house in Venice known for its collection of paintings by Tintoretto, widely considered some of his finest work. The building has two main halls: the lower Sala Terra and the upper Sala Superiore, which was used for meetings. All the works in the building are by Tintoretto or his assistants, executed between 1564 and 1587.

A bit of history

The confraternity was established in 1478, named after San Rocco, a protector against plague. The building project began in 1515 under Pietro Bon, with later architects including Sante Lombardo, Antonio Scarpagnino, and Giangiacomo dei Grigi, who finished in 1560. The design features two halls, with a stair leading to the upper storey.
