A bit of history
Baron Giorgio Franchetti bought the dilapidated Ca' d'Oro in 1891 and restored it to its 15th-century layout. He added mosaic floors, designed the inner courtyard mosaic himself, and built a chapel to house Mantegna's St Sebastian. The palace became a museum in 1927, after Franchetti's death, fulfilling his wish to make the house and collection public.
