Palazzo Vecchio has been the seat of Florentine government since the 14th century. This fortress-like palace overlooks Piazza della Signoria and houses a museum of Renaissance art and artifacts. Visitors can explore the lavish Salone dei Cinquecento (Hall of the Five Hundred), adorned with frescoes by Vasari and a statue of Victory by Michelangelo. The private apartments of the Medici family, including the Studiolo of Francesco I, are richly decorated. Climbing the Torre d'Arnolfo tower offers stunning city views. The palace also features a secret passage, the Vasari Corridor, which connects to the Uffizi (currently partially accessible). The museum provides insight into the political and cultural life of Renaissance Florence.
