Via dell'Amore, or 'Lover's Lane,' is a scenic footpath carved into the cliffs between Manarola and Riomaggiore, part of the Cinque Terre trail network. This relatively flat, easy walk (about 1 km) offers breathtaking views of the Ligurian Sea and the terraced vineyards that cling to the hillsides. The path is adorned with love locks, graffiti, and benches where couples pause to admire the panorama. Originally built in the 1920s to connect the two villages for railway construction workers, it became a symbol of romance and a must-do for visitors. The trail is open year-round (weather permitting) and is especially popular at sunset. Despite its fame, the path can get crowded in peak season, so early morning or late afternoon visits are recommended. Note that sections of the trail have been closed in recent years due to landslides, so check current conditions before going.
