Corniglia is the quietest and most secluded of the Cinque Terre villages, set atop a 100-meter cliff overlooking the Ligurian Sea. Unlike its four neighbors, it has no direct beach access; instead, visitors climb the famous Lardarina, a long brick staircase of 377 steps, or take a shuttle bus from the train station to reach the village center. Once there, you'll find a peaceful, authentic atmosphere with fewer crowds. The village is surrounded by terraced vineyards that produce the local Sciacchetrà wine, and narrow streets wind past pastel-colored houses, small shops, and trattorias. Key sights include the Church of San Pietro, with a Gothic rose window, and the panoramic terrace at the end of Via Fieschi, offering sweeping views of the coast. Corniglia is also a starting point for hikes to Manarola or Vernazza through vineyards and olive groves.
