Cinque Terre National Park (Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre) was established in 1999 to preserve the unique cultural landscape of the five villages and their surrounding terraced hillsides. Covering about 4,300 acres along the Ligurian coast, the park protects not only the iconic vineyards and olive groves but also the diverse flora and fauna of the Mediterranean maquis. Visitors can explore a network of hiking trails that range from easy coastal paths to challenging mountain routes, all offering spectacular views of the sea and terraced slopes. The park is also home to several sanctuaries, such as the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Montenero, perched high above Riomaggiore. A key feature is the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail), which connects the five villages. The park's management focuses on sustainable tourism, encouraging visitors to respect the fragile ecosystem and support local agriculture.
